Germany Invades Hungary

On March 19,1944 Germany invaded Hungary. The invasion was so that Hungary could get out of the war by withdrawing its troops from the Eastern front, however when Hungary tried to pull out of the war, Germany occupied it. Hungary joined the war in 1940. In 1944 however, when the country tried to pull out of the war, it was occupied by the Germans. Germany invaded Hungary to install a pro-nazi puppet government. The invasion was in response to Hungary\'s attempt to get out of the war by withdrawing its troops from the Eastern Front. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/When_did_Hitler_invades_Hungary
While these evens were taking place Germany increased its financial and economic presence in Hungary. When the Germans invaded and occupied Hungary in 1944, Hurt chose to establish a pro-German Hungarian government, rather than a purely German government, at the same time trying to surrender to the Allies. His plan failed and was instead arrested by the Germans. However, when the Germans invaded Hungary in March 1944 many Polish working in “cells” were caught and shot by the Gestapo including Officer Szuroda, but in 1944 the Germans invaded Hungary and began mass deportations of the Jews to the death camps. By the time the documents reached Budapest, Hungary had joined Germany in the war in 1941. But after Germany had lost the battle of Stalin grad, Hungary became a reluctant ally and initiated secret negotiations with the Anglo-Saxon powers. The Germans, who knew about these covert initiatives, decided to occupy the country in order to prevent Hungary\'s desertion from the German camp. http://www.osa.ceu.hu/guide/rip/1/a.html
Germany invaded Hungary on March 19, 1944. By then, the number of Jews in Hungary was more than 700 000. On April 16 1944 the deportations of the Jews began, and within a couple of months several hundred thousand had been transported to concentration camps, mostly to Auschwitz, Poland, and murdered. In 2001, the Ministry of Education in Hungary chose April 16 as the official date of commemoration of the Holocaust. In Hungary before the war the initial Jewish Population was 800,000. The estimated present killed was 74%. That means 596,000 was killed. The numbers of survives were 204,000. http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/holocaust/h-statistics.htm
The Germans invaded Hungary on March 19, 1944 only four days after the Hungarians had celebrated their National Day. The German fronts were crumbling and they were scared that Hungary would join forces with the Allies against them. That is exactly what Hungary had planned. During the occupation, the Hungarian \"regent\" Horthy tried to maintain some independence hoping that it would be the British or the Americans who would liberate his country rather than the dreaded Russians. By July, almost 500 000 Jews had been rounded up and sent to concentration camps by the Nazis, but there were still 200 000 Jews left in Budapest. The world had become aware of the Holocaust and Swedish King Gustav V sent a personal plea to Hungary\'s President Horthy, which resulted in a temporary stop of the deportations. The Swedish embassy started issuing temporary passports to Jews. Shortly afterwards, however, the Germans supported Horthy with local Arrow Cross fascists to rule the country. Together with Adolf Eichmann, they were particularly single-minded in their pursuit of the Jews. http://www.nordicway.com/search/RaoulWallenberg.htm
